Can I sell this 3D print on Etsy?
Short answer: you need two separate permissions. One comes from the designer (a commercial license). The other comes from Etsy, whose own rules now restrict 3D prints of designs you didn't create.
A 4-step checklist
- Check the model's license. If it's personal-use-only or Non-Commercial, you can't sell prints without extra permission.
- Get a commercial license from the designer (Patreon tier, MakerWorld membership or direct license) and save proof of it.
- Read the fine print: allowed channels (Etsy? Amazon? craft fairs only?), unit caps, attribution, and what happens when you cancel.
- Check the marketplace's rules. Etsy's Creativity Standards, Amazon's category rules and local craft-fair rules all apply on top of the license. For Etsy, prints of third-party designs are now high-risk even when you hold a license.
Designers whose license explicitly names Etsy
We found Etsy named as allowed on the pages for:
Even then, Etsy's own policy applies. Craft fairs, your own website and local shops are often lower-risk channels.
FAQ
Can I sell prints of a model I downloaded for free?
Usually not. Most free models are licensed for personal use only (often Creative Commons Non-Commercial or a site's standard license). You need the designer's permission, which is what a commercial license or membership gives you.
Does a commercial license make it OK to sell on Etsy?
Not necessarily. A license settles your rights with the designer, but Etsy has its own rules. Etsy's Creativity Standards were updated in June 2025 so that items made with computerized tools like 3D printers must be based on the seller's original design. Prints of someone else's licensed design may be removed, even if the designer allows Etsy. Check Etsy's current Creativity Standards before you list.
What happens to my right to sell if I cancel the membership?
It depends on the designer. Many licenses end when you stop paying; some let you keep selling models you downloaded while subscribed. Each designer page on this site shows what we found, or says 'unknown'.
Can I sell fan art, like Pokémon or Star Wars prints?
A designer's license cannot give you rights they do not own. Fan-art models of trademarked or copyrighted characters carry real takedown risk on every marketplace. That is why we rate IP risk for each designer.
Do I have to credit the designer?
Many licenses require credit in the listing, or registration as an authorized seller. Look at the attribution field on each designer page.
Are there limits on how many I can sell?
Some licenses cap units per month or per design, ban mass production or print farms, or require you to print the items yourself. The unit caps column shows what we found.
